Do I Have to Hire a Professional Landscaper?

January 30, 2010

Whether or not to hire a professional landscaper depends entirely on what you want to do and a realistic assessment of whether or not you are willing and able to do it yourself. Obviously the first the decision you have to make relates to what you want to do: do you have a firm idea of exactly what you want or do you just want something different and do not have any real ideas? If you do not really care that much and are just looking for something nice and different or are just landscaping to improve the resale value of you home, hiring an Oregon landscaping company might be the right decision to make since they can give you good ideas on should be done and have the means of doing it fairly quickly.

However, if you know exactly what you want and are ding it more for your own enjoyment, you do not really need a professional for their ideas. The next question is whether or not you have the necessary ability and willingness to do the job yourself. Some people really enjoy working in their lawns and gardens and if you are one of them, implementing your plan gradually, step by step and with your own hands might be the best option. However, if you are not one of these people or you want the whole job done quickly, perhaps a professional landscaping company would be the better option.

Related to the above is whether or not you have the technical know-how required to implement your plan. For example, do you know how to work out your own drainage or pitching? Likewise, do you have access to all the materials needed to create your vision? For example, if you want a row of trees, do you have the means of acquiring the trees, transporting them and planting them? Finally there is also the question of your willingness to do what must be done. It is very easy to decide that you want to do something and it can be easy to decide that you can do something, but actually getting it done can be a different matter.
